Default R.L. Winston and Cabela's ?

Cabela's now carries Winston fly rods. That's like saying
WalMart now carries Waterford crystal. What in the hell
is going on ?

Closer examination reveals that not all Winstons are listed,
the WT for example, is not listed in the Cabela's catalog.
But even closer examination reveals that the WT is available
from Winston themselves only as a special order. WTF ? Since
when ? For those who don't know the WT is the successor to
the venerable and classic Winston IM6. The Winston IM6 is,
in my never humble opinion, the very finest 3 weight graphite
fly rod ever manufactured.

As I recall there was a changing of the guard at Winston a
while back. Sounds like Winston is on a downhill trajectory.
Maybe it's just the rotten economy and a temporary thing. I
hope so.

Cabelas has been carrying the Winston BIIIx since the fall. Matter of
fact, Winston put off shipping their new stuff to their traditional
dealers while they stocked Cabelas. It's been a topic of debate for
some time on the Winston forum

Winston has taken a decidedly different operating track the last few
years. While the businessman in me understands it given the continued
decline in the number of independent fly shops, the traditionalist in
me sure hates to see Winston further strain their dealers by favoring
Cabela's but at the end they forgot to call me and ask for my advice :

You
see every Thursday the New York Times devotes a section of

LOL indeed! The word snobbery comes to mind, especially in the NYT Style
section. Each to their own, of course.

Don't worry, I've never seen a fly fishermen modeling the latest
in tweed jackets in the Style section. ;-) The Times scrutinizes
other ineffable aspects of Style.

true enough......for instance, this past week they delved into the
celebrity of Andrew Cohen, and his appearance at an oh-so-trendy West
Village restaurant. How could the world continue to exist without such
'style'?
Tom

p.s. actually, a foray into fly-fishing would be a step up for the
Times. I just hope not to witness same.....

Well, no, most emphatically NOT of course. Each to their own is the
very antithesis of "style."

I repeat, without intensely close and constant scrutiny, style does
not exist.

i mean, ****, even the doughboy figured this one out.

Still don't get it, huh? The world WILL NOT continue to exist without
such style.

Yeah, they might discover you.

See, this is where it gets problematic.
