I am thinking of getting a aquarium, at least 50 gallons. Are their any
places to get good deals on aquariums? Also, with a average room temp
of 80, what kind of chiller would be needed to have a temp of 60 in the
aquarium? How much would this cost?

Why do you want the temp to be 60? Trout? Bass? You'd need a heck of
a lot more than 50 gallons to keep those, and check your local laws
before doing so. A dependable chiller that can cool 50 gallons of
water 20 degrees will;

a: Cost 400 dollars or more, most likely a lot more.

b: Raise the temp in your house about 7 degrees

As far as good deals on aquariums, the cheapest places are the
big-box boys like Petco and Petsmart, though in most cases I wouldn't
buy livestock there.

Have you seen http://faq.thekrib.com/ ?
Great info for newbs and 'experts' alike.

What kind of fish are you planning to keep? Certainly not tropicals.

I have bought all of my tanks through eBay. I drove 600 miles to pick
one up, but the others were delivered by UPS. The prices were good
even with shipping and most of the tanks came with extras that were
useful such as a gravel cleaner with a 50 foot hose.

I bought my tank at Petland Discounts for 69.00. Not bad for a 55 gallon
tank made by All Glass Aquariums.
Then you can buy the heater/filter/etc. that you want. Try Bigalsonline for
accessories.

You really dont need a chiller... plus a chiller costs as much as what a 55
aquarium setup would cost.

What do you mean by 55 aquarium? 55 degree or 55 gallon?

He is telling you that the cost of a adequete chiller would be more
than the remainder of costs attributed to the setup of a 55 (gallon)
aquarium. Again, why do you need the water to be this cold? This is a
project that many experienced aquarists would shun.

You really don't need a chiller. I checked prices 3/4 years ago and they
+ the controllers were close to $1,000. But I'm curious - why do you
think or need a chiller?
