Why post here at all? What price good, or even bad advice?
some do it for their egos, and some do it just because it´s nice. One´s fellow anglers, beginner, quite advanced, some young, some old, may be most grateful for the tip you give, may save frustration and expense untold. "But which advice to take?", you ask, I fear I can not really say, some may be good, some may be bad, some may even work upon the day, when almost skunked, despite your store of knowledge and fine skills, you try some thing you heard on here, and lo, a goodly trout it kills. Which line should you use then, which rod? Which reel, Which fly? Only you can really know at last, what gear and patterns you must try. You may of course ignore advice, and simply do the things you feel are right, this works as well, sometime sooner sometimes later, and may redress your fishless plight. advice is good, and so are books and dreams, and even longing hopeful wishing, but it really is quite easy to succeed, all you need to do, is go and do some fishing. And the moral of the story is right as rain, nobody has ever learned to fly fish, or appreciate the difference between a weight forward and a double taper, by reading a newsgroup. -- Ken Fortenberry - (insert Nike ad here ;-) |

But by reading the newsgroup, I've managed to meet some of the other posters in person. They've helped me learn a couple of things. Works for me. -- rbc:vixen,Minnow Goddess,Willow Watcher, and all that sort of thing. Often taunted by trout. Only a fool would refuse to believe in luck. On a related note, http://www.westfly.com/feature/oldfe.../feature_2.htm (see The First Two Never-Fail Rules) JR Hi, I would add a corollary to Rule Three, which read: In any given body of water, on any given day, there exists one really dumb fish that will confidently accept anything presented to it in any manner. Furthermore, there is no relationship between the size of the fish and the stupidity of the technique used to catch it. The "Curry Corollary" actually refutes the second part of the rule - to wit that there is no relationship between the size of the fish and the stupidity of the technique. I suggest that there is indeed a connection and would suggest: "the size of the fish will be directly proportional to really stupid techniques - the more improbable the technique, the bigger the fish" I say this based on several observations, in particular one evening when fishing with my Uncle Don - the one who always wades wet whether or not he is attempting to do so. On this particular evening Don waded out into a very calm, but very deep, section of a local river where several large fish were showing on the far side. As he finally approached casting range, I heard a "bloop" sound, and saw no more Uncle Don - except for his hat floating peacefully in the growing concentric rings where once he stood. Momentarily, Don arose from the water, back closer to the original point of entry. He was soaked, his waders were full of water - and glommed onto the end of his line was a very nice brook trout. Now I ask you, how many of us would attempt to repeat this feat, even if it means a nice trout. Bill http://www.tightlines.ca Who now needs to go dry off - seems I went in over my waders.... |

Very good. Never had a trout swim into my (dangling!) net yet, but hope
springs eternal! ![]() well! There was a gentleman on a "party boat" (20-50 folks on one ocean-going boat to fish) a few years ago in California who had his collarbone broken by an almost 30lb yellowfin tuna that jumped into the boat while the boat was cruising. Always sounded like some weird Monty Python routine to me. -- Frank Reid Reverse Email to reply |
