Tom [or anyone] I have a problem..Cannot see those little yellow zit flies
you furnished me when I attended the Rainout Clave a couple of years ago. [ think you called the sulfas] So I want to pretie them onto leaders to use as droopers --questions What big fly should I use as indicator? What size leader for dropper--how long? Any suggestions for transporting fly-leader-zit fly around in my vest without crushing flies? What knot do I use on to tie leader to bend of hook? Is all this worth the trouble--will your fish take droppers? should I just trade three zit flies for one I can see on the water? Thanks anyone - Joe McIntosh |

Joe asks for help from:
Tom [or anyone] in full clavemeister mode...... I have a problem. let me go open a beer......now, I'm ready. Cannot see those little yellow zit flies you furnished me when I attended the Rainout Clave a couple of years ago. Those are sulfurs, you are probably going to have to fish them, somehow...... So I want to pretie them onto leaders to use as droopers those would be droppers....droopers are what you get at that club in Millheim. Now, the way I tie droppers in by leaving knot tags off the last blood knot in the leader, but you want to run about 18-20 inches of leader from indicator fly to sulfurs. What big fly should I use as indicator? Patriot dry, size 12(10 in heavy currents), they are bright,high-floating, and Penn's fish seem to like them. What size leader for dropper--how long? 18-20 inches of 5x to the sulfur. Any suggestions for transporting fly-leader-zit fly around in my vest without crushing flies? I wouldn't have a clue on that one....perhaps someone on ROFF knows. What knot do I use on to tie leader to bend of hook? I'll leave this one to the experts, as well. should I just trade three zit flies for one I can see on the water? it should be a sellers market for Sulfurs by about Tuesday evening.... looking forward to seeing you, Tom |

bring some rare breed wild turkey, knob creek will do almost as well,
and i'll show you all you need to know about tying on a dropper. tom's method is ok if you like tying blood knots and can cipher the tag end...but, you lose the tag pretty quickly and you'll be practicing a lot of blood knot work. improved clinch on the bend of the hook is easiest and i think works the best. sometimes the drift on the dropper is a bit difficult. but, tangles less for me. ... went fishing yesterday at cape lookout. no spanish yet, albies have moved on, but the blues were hungry. jim engaged in an interesting "chumming" method while trolling. seems it requires country ham, eggs, grits, etc. ... i think a lacourse breakfast could be invaluable in the development of this particular form of chumming, if you get my drift. hooked 3 blues while jim was "spreading" chum. jeff (droopers? i thought they closed that place?) ![]() Danl wrote: hmmm... isn't "hot chumming" illegal in pamlico sound? we weren't in the sound...out in the ocean off shackleford banks and cape lookout. ...but it's those thru hull heads that are illegal. sphincter winking at the ocean or pamlico sound over the gunwale of a 17 foot bay boat sloshing in some sizeable swells, while foolish, impolite in company, and lacking in respect for any ecosystem, isn't regulated as far as i know. well, unless you do it intentionally in view of a crowd, i guess. the bluefish didn't seem to mind though. btw, is the inestimable mr. roberts gonna make an appearance in the blue ridge? i've mentioned it. i thought he might accompany wayno. joe and i are heading up on the 12th...should be there by mid-day. we will be leaving from there on the 14th for penns. he could get a ride with us up to g'boro or morganton, but would need a ride back. i doubt he's arranged his court schedule. give him a call... 252-321-8463 today or 252-758-9947 tomorrow (after 9 am est). danl and i have a couple of special flies tied just for you, jeffie. i think they outta work just fine.... hmmm... lookin forward to seein them...i think. we'll save them for our stroll down greentown trail. jeff "Jeff Miller" wrote in message news:Efalc.2632$nN6.1233@lakeread06... went fishing yesterday at cape lookout. no spanish yet, albies have moved on, but the blues were hungry. jim engaged in an interesting "chumming" method while trolling. seems it requires country ham, eggs, grits, etc. ... i think a lacourse breakfast could be invaluable in the development of this particular form of chumming, if you get my drift. hooked 3 blues while jim was "spreading" chum. jeff (droopers? i thought they closed that place?) |
