Yesterday in an attempt to put the strike indicator / yarn
controversy to bed. Myself and two well know Roffians ( who remain nameless to protect their innocence and perceived intelligence) adjurned to the Yellowstone River above Livingston to preform this much awaited test. We used three rods, all 3 carefully wrapped in duct tape so there would be no pecieved advantage to using one over the other so as to effect the test. The rods were rotated every 2 hours during the day so as to take nymphing ability out of the equation also. I would like to congratulate the other two un named co- conspirators for they r e persistence in continuing the test while being sorely tempted. Around 2 we all noticed quite a few bugs crawling down our shirts and under our glasses. We then could hear lot s of splashes and kerplunks . We agreed to momentarily raise our blindfolds and beheld one of the largest caddis hatches I had ever seen ! Doggedly we continued nymphing. These were the results at the end of the day: Rod #1: Yarn strike indicator, least fish caught Rod #2: Putty strike indicator, right in the middle Rod #3: Yarn strike indicator and Putty strike indicator, most fish caught MT in MT |
