Default Closed Fishing Season

What do you think about the closed season now, do you think it should be
abolished and is out dated, or do you think its a good thing, I can not
really make my mind up but I do really miss fishing my local river on, I
know you can still fish some canals and Stillwater's but I miss the river.

I too miss fishing my favourite bit of river but I keep telling myself that
the close season on rivers is for the benefit of the fish, not us. It also
gives bankside vegetation a chance to recover. As for the close season in
still waters. It's not so important if fish don't spawn successfully
there - more fish can always be stocked - the poor old bankside gets no
chance to recover though. I wonder if a staggered stillwater close season
would be workable. A fishery with four lakes could have one lake closed for
a full year on a rotating basis for instance - a bit like farmers leaving
fields fallow for a year.
Just a thought.
