Has anybody heard about a new fishery near Wareham in Dorset?
It is called Silent Woman Lakes and they claim to have very large Carp to 45lb, however they want to charge £12 per afternoon/Morning £20 per day £80 per week with no night fishing It it me or is it just madness charging prices like that.I do not mind paying £5-£10 per day but not too much more than that. www.silentwomanlakes.co.uk Also I have just heard the the New Forest water park is selling out to a syndicate for £300 per Angler per year , do you have to be made of money to go carp fishing these days?? I would be interested with any of your comments. |

If you want some interesting fishing in the area then the Wareham club has (used to have?) access to a few old claypits that hardly anyone fished. Some of them have lovely wildies - real fish shaped carp - around the 3-15 lb mark that are great fun to catch although the bankside conditions are a bit jungly. It it me or is it just madness charging prices like that.I do not mind In a couple of years the imported carp will have gone back or died and the owner will either have gone bust or had a rethink. If the water's of any intrinsic interest I expect it will be available for rather less. do you have to be made of money to go carp fishing these days?? No. You can go carp fishing within easy reach of Wareham for, er, let's make a rough calculation: Licence 23.00 Club membership 43.00 Sufficient tackle including net 100.00 Bait, per trip: 0.50 So lets say 68 trips for 200.00 or less than 3.00 per trip excluding transport, food and drink. If you allow (say) four hours per trip you should get a couple of hundred or more fish and get it below a quid per fish and under 20p/pound. The second year will be cheaper. Cheerio, -- |

Derek
I have been in the wareham club for over 25 years and my father has been for even longer(Phil Chinery)We have both served time on the commitee. It is still a great little club with some great waters. One of the few as you say to have wild english carp in. The big problem is two of their lakes have loads and loads of big bream in, and those slimey buggers pick up all my bait intended for carp. I thing you must have to catch 100 bream to 1 carp.perhaps I should change my tactics , any idea how to target carp when there are lots of bream in a water? The silent woman lakes are near the pub but for directions look on the website- www.silentwomenlakes.co.uk "Bryan Hall" wrote in message news:Q4ECc.114$QZ3.48@newsfe6-win... Thanks Dave - link should be www.silentwomAnlakes.co.uk
Looks like the proverbial hole in the ground with 1 high cost fish, and very high cost fee! Can't see that sort of fee lasting too long, not with Wareham AC plus Warmwell just down the road, and Golden Springs nr Dorchester. I wonder if it's where I used to camp abut 15 years ago - looks cold and wet enough ;-) "DAVE CHINERY" wrote in message ... Long may you resist calls to stock the ugly lumps. The big problem is two of their lakes have loads and loads of big bream in, and those slimey buggers pick up all my bait intended for carp. You want me to tell you how to fish your own waters? OK ;-) (I'm with D&DAS btw) At this time of year floaters are the best bet. Either bread or inflated lobs for preference. Fish among the lillypads with *strong* line, hit and hold hard and they'll jump their way out of the snagpits. If they won't come quite to the top then try either: Freelined flake with the line greased within two feet of the hook so just that much sinks s l o o o o w l y, fish against the same lillypads and rhodedendron snags and strike as soon as the line goes. or: part inflated lobworm dropped right in the middle of the lillies but with the line held over the pads so it sinks no more than a foot... Hit and -heave-, use anything up to 20lb line for this. The silent woman lakes are near the pub but for directions look on the Ah, thought so, ta. Cheerio, -- |
