Howdy gents,
Blyth (south) Pier is one of our regular haunts. Although sometimes fickle, it usually provides a fun day out. I was wondering, though, can anybody describe the seabed layout, preferably based on information from the scuba divers? I've heard 'reports' ranging from mainly sandy bed, through to a trough and ledges, complete with huge boulders... it would be nice to know were to aim for the specific species you're fishing for. It would be nice to catch a dogfish or a decent ling, however slim the chances are at this location, I'm sure it must be possible if you know where to target your bait. Speaking of species, what is the most oddball thing anyone's brought in from this place?Between my friends and I, we have ranked up: Cod/codling Coalies Flatties (dab, flounder, plaice) Mackerel Whiting Ling Crabs/lobsters (exotic swimming crabs, large edibles, large hermits and large blue lobsters) Octopus A glove... boo I'd very much like to learn more about the spot I'm fishing, and rely less on luck and more on knowledge. I tend to use beads on my line, seems to be guaranteed flatty tackle. Does it scare some fish away as well attract flatties? Are there any other rigs geared toward particular species? Anyway that's all - any info will be appreciated ![]() David |

best place to ask this question will be in http://www.nesa.co.uk
loads of blyth folks hang out in there from my experience, the river side is very broken boulders/rocks if you cast straight out just after the bend theres a hole about 50 yards out. very rough on the bottom , but usually where the bigger fish hang out. up to the bend on the seaward side is fairly clean sand, getting rougher the further down the pier you go there's even a couple of wrecks just about in casting distance from the end in a SE direction mark |
