Default Conservation Organizations?

Howdy, everyone.

As a new fly fisherman and a fairly recent convert to conservation
semi-activism, I'd like to join and support organizations that are
fighting to preserve wild places, catch-and-release, and wildlife in
general.

I'm a member of Trout Unlimited and the Audobon Society. Can you good
folks recommend others I might want to join and support?

Thanks in advance!

TU? Aren't they the *******s that have ruined my home waters in Maine? By
golly, they are! You wanna do something? Take part in the war against Florida
Power and Light in Maine. Put pressure on Maine's TU to help you. But, I
doubt they will.

Dave:
I've been away from home for awhile; give me some specifics about whats
happening and where. I know its out there in googleland, but a quick summary
will get me started. And who the hell is Florida Light and Power?? Did they
buy out GP, who bought out Nekoosa, who bought out Great Northern, who
bought out....

-----------
Many local fly fishing clubs have a conservation program that you could
contribute both your money and your time. Everything from stream
restoration projects, to fish counts, to political activism, to educational
opportunities. Join in, and enjoy

Nature Conservancy is a great one. Puts their money where their mouth is.
If they see a good candidate for forever green space, they buy it

What part of the world do you live in? I'm asking because many local
waters have "Friends of.." organizations. We have a Friends of the
Prairie River which is concerned with the water thats flowing two
blocks from my front door. Perhaps there is something similiar near to
where you live.
