Mind sharing your favorite scud pattern for slow moving shallow river 4'-9'
use? I have my books, but I suspect there is a 'special' guide pattern out there that is a killer color, material, or colored bead or something spectacular? Thanks in advance, Chris |

Olive or gray Hare's Ear Plus (Antron/Hare's Ear) wrapped over a #12-#16 scud or wet fly hook. A few wraps of lead wire for weight under that and a shellback of poly bag material ribbed with either extra fine copper wire or brown tying thread pulled over the top. I also tie a pink version with ribbing of flourescent pink tying thread. I use a piece of velcro to fuzz up the body. Pretty standard pattern, I'm afraid. g.c. |

Best producing scud on the Northfork & White Rivers is the same pattern
George mentions below, but a little to the gray and without the shellback - no sparkle. Trim fur on top kind of close and leave the bottom the length of the gape. Ugly is Good. Oops Chris,
I said Padishar in the "Ugly Fly" post. Sorry. Sounds like our tying styles are related. That's ugly. Ugly is good. Guy "Padishar Creel" wrote in message ... ![]() "Padishar Creel" wrote in message ... Mind sharing your favorite scud pattern for slow moving shallow river 4'-9' use? I don't have a *favorite*, only tie and use one generic pattern. However one of the most recent fly rod and reel issues, or maybe it was fly fisherman, had a rather good article on scuds and scud imitation. If you can't find a copy, email me a fax number and I'll get you a copy. |

Thanks in advance, Chris Here's a recipe for you. Even has a picture. http://www.telusplanet.net/public/cn...vid.htm#flyhcs but I tend to use scuds mostly in lakes. Tim Lysyk |
