Is there a difference between walleye and zander? A restaurant in
Milwaukee, WI was advertising Canadian walleye, but it turns out the fish were European zander... The TV news and papers here in the Twin Cities had a filed day with this story, and the MN commerce dept had even stepped in. Couple of restaurants even went as far as having "taste tests" between the two, fueled by cheap beer - dunno how good a taste test would be under those condx - The average consumer wouldn't be able to tell them apart as served batter fried. Upshot of the whole deal is that most all restaurants hereabouts have gone back to commercial fished canadian walleye. FWIW I like 'em both, but I've only ever fished walleye here in MN and up in NW ON (lake wabigoon near Dryden for them what cares) Dave |
