XPS balance system

Just bought a Rick Clunn signature series rod from Basspro ($79. on sale at
$49.) to go with my Shimano Curado. It is equipped for use with XPS Weight
Balance System that is purchased separately. Are these weights necessary?

Not if you're happy with the rod as it is. Some people like to add weight
to the butt of the rod to balance it. Some feel that it makes a difference
in the way the rod feels and fishes, others like to keep the rod as
lightweight as possible.

As an experiment, try stacking some quarters up and taping them to the butt
of the rod. If you like the way this feels, then by all means purchase the
balance system.

I haven't tried weighting mine in two years. Either way, I recommend that
you put a little sealant (RTV, etc) on the threads, as they work loose on my
four regularly.
