Default help for a real beginner

Hi all.

I have been fished for many years for carp and other coarse fish and I am
fortunate in having access to many trout rivers and lakes so I want to give
it a go. The problem I have no idea where to start.

I am looking at rods and the choice is bewildering. Cam anybody give me an
idea on rod, reels and line I need. I anticipate using wet flies on the
Derwent, Dove and a numver of others as well as lakes and a couple of gracel
pits.

Check out our site

www.uk-fishing-tackle.co.uk

We do a Fladen two piece fly rod and a reel in a combo pack for just
£24.95 - They may not be 'professional' quality, but they are
certainly an excellent first rod and reel, and do not involve the kind
of investment that many tackle shops would have you make.

A floating fly line is going to be around £7.95, we've got no
intermediates in stock until next week.

If you bought a fly rod, reel and line, we'd pre-spool it and throw on
some bulk braid for the backing.

Any questions let me know...

OK, you do in fact have a lot of basic fish-sense and some feel for tackle.

These are two, possibly three rather different requirements. River wet fly
requires a relatively sernsitive approach, gravel pits usually require long
casting and -if- you are planning to go afloat then loch-style needs a long
light rod.

By all means check out the site but don't actually buy anything until you've
had a lesson or two. Find a local casting instructor, tell him you'll need
to use his gear for the first session and have him recommend suitable gear
for you based on your strength, build, budget and the waters you're
intending to fish.

As you will know from your coarse fishing, accuracy and delicacy is almost
always more important than distance especially as the better fish often stay
close to snags.

Get the cheapest line you can find BTW and expect to ruin it in your first
year by casting into all the snagpits that the better fish haunt.

Be encouraged: your coarse fishing experience will help - and you can catch
coarse fish on a fly too.

Have fun.

Cheerio,

aye - just ask Andy Lawson; perched in a boat, carping about the sun,
whilst Dave drops a roach near the rudder. Makes a change from him
chasing Barbelella round the campsite, 'e'll never get near. Meanwhile,
back at the Glan Aber bunkhouse, Roy 'chubby' Powell is recoiling at the
sock' stench, and Bill breams at the menu offering pie c'e jour.

sorry lads, slow day, too much coffee, not enough cigs.
