Getting ready to purchase the Garmin 162 GPS... anyone have anything they
think they need to share before I spend the cash? Opinions??? Of course, I'll load Mapsource Fishing Hotspots on it. That software rocks! Oh yeah... anyone interested in a used Garmin eMap? Great little handheld unit. -- Charles B. Summers Secret Weapon Lures http://www.secretweaponlures.com |

I have had one for at least a year. Great unit. The base map is off a few
hundred yards, but that is government problem. Base for 2/3 of the US is off by that amount. Is black and white, so may not get all the detail that a color charter can give you with the maps. Actually loads a farily large area in the map memory. I am interested in how you like the Mapsource FH map. Is fun to play with on rainy days and anchored up. I have a bimini top on my boat. Figured out distance to Paris one day. Is a world map. Bill "Charles Summers" wrote in message ... I've got one also Bill and I've been using both the Fishing Hot Spots and
the Americas Blue Chart for mine. The FHS software is fantastic as far as giving details, but the Americas Blue Chart is far superior. The draw back is the Blue Chart is designed for the Great Lakes and the Coast lines. It does also include Lake Okeechobee. I had a Lowrance handheld and a fixed mount unit until last year at the Mid-Tenn. Classic, where I saw the differences in detail between the software for the Lowrance and the Garmin. As soon as I got home I sold both Lowrance's and bought the 162 fixed mount and a GPSMap76 handheld. I've never regretted the change. "Calif Bill" wrote in message link.net... I actually use the Roads and Rec map CD. Since I live near the coast and
most of the California lakes and the delta are covered, it does very well. No contours, but great to show where your are. I also have the paper charts and use them a lot for the contours. Too cheap to buy the Blue Chart (Yet). Bill "Jerry Barton" wrote in message ... I've got one also Bill and I've been using both the Fishing Hot Spots and the Americas Blue Chart for mine. I've got the 168 myself, and a 176.
I like the 168 very much, but I can see where a seperate sounder and map is better for many circumstances circumstance. Thats the way I'm going to setup my aluminum boat. -- Bob La Londe www.YumaBassMan.com All about fishing in Yuma, Arizona Promote Your Fishing Website FOR FREE "Calif Bill" wrote in message link.net... Yea!!! Just won a Garmin 162 on eBay for $290.00!!!
Ok... your question about the Fishing Hotspots. I love it!! I usually have no problems running the lower end of my home lake, but things can get pretty tricky as you make your way up to the end. This end is also where most of our tournaments are held, and FHS has always lead me up the channel and back, even in the dark. Accuracy is awesome, even on my non-WAAS handeld eMap unit. There's a submerged bridge up in the Suggs Creek channel that I can mark on my sonar the exact time that my FHS is saying the boat is over it. When the lake is in draw-down, I'm even able to fish the bridge... something I couldn't do before without criss-crossing the channel looking for. Now, I can go straight to it. We fished Dale Hollow Lake late last year on an overnighter and basically saved my butt several times. I highly recommend Fishing Hotspots. -- Charles B.
