i am considering one of these spring loaded bow locking devices at BPS.
looks like it would make loading the boat easier especially when fishing solo. does anyone here have experience with this or similar product? is it a gimmick or does it work as well as they claim? |

I heard they do not work well with some bow eyes. particularly cast eyes.
I have also heard that you have to get them adjusted just right to work reliability. My ABA partner Hammer had one on his Ranger trailer. It did not lock up very reliably. I have also heard a couple people who swear by them "irbfishin" wrote in message oups.com... i am considering one of these spring loaded bow locking devices at BPS. looks like it would make loading the boat easier especially when fishing solo. does anyone here have experience with this or similar product? is it a gimmick or does it work as well as they claim? |

I tried one a few years ago from B.P.S. and ended up returning it. It comes
with an elongated bow eye to facilitate the spring loaded locking pin. It does work as advertised most of the time, but when you drive on the trailer it's a one shot deal.....if it doesn't latch perfectly the first time, it sure is a pain in the a$$ to reset for the next attempt.... Easier to just climb over and hook up the strap than to reset that gizmo. That's why I got rid of mine. YMMV said Huck |

The eyelet had broken at the bolt. It look like the part that was still in the boat buddy had been smashed. I though to my self he must have hit the locking mechanism really hard to break the eyelet and never realized it until he was on his way home and the bow of the boat wanted to lift up. Sarge |

I have one on my trailer and it worked well. My boat centers well so it was pretty reliable. I beat it to death over a few years, loading hard on poor ramps. BTW out of the box, the hand lever could use some deburring. -- I am using the free version of SPAMfighter for private users. It has removed 113 spam emails to date.
