Seriously, though, llama in a blender is a good idea. I have a source of llama and alpaca fur (she keeps trying to give me more, but I really don't like it for tying). Both have very long fibers, moderately kinky (both the fiber and my source, but that's a story for the campfire), feels a bit greasy (ahem, talking fiber here, even after a bath in Dawn dishwashing detergent - very good grease cutter), very difficult to dub. This stuff probably needs a quick spin in a blender or coffee grinder, but my old blade coffee grinder bit the big one a couple of years ago (and I've switched to burr grinders for coffee so I don't have a stream of old blade grinders any longer). I suppose I should get myself to a second-hand store. But really, I don't like the stuff enough to bother. I *do* on the other hand like what they call "Awesome Possum" and/or "Aussie Possum" over here in the States. Who knows if it's really from some Australian hairy beast, but it is really nice stuff, full of short guard hairs, useful for dries and nymphs (makes a nice tight rope or a loose spiky one). -- Stan Gula http://gula.org/roffswaps |
