..=2E.which is the posh word for "people from Stockport".

Hi all,

Does anyone on this list ever fish Stockport Fed's stretch of the Goyt?
Chatting to a member recently, I found out they have five miles or so,
and the trout and grayling fishing is meant to be decent. It's Only c.
=A325 for a year, so I'm tempted to give it a shot but knowing a little
of the Goyt's polluted past, I'm a little hesitant to part with the
readies before I know what the fishing's like.

TIA
Nick

On Tue, 12 Jul 2005, Tarby777, gave forth these words of wisdom:
It's Only c. £25 for a year, so I'm tempted to give it a shot but
knowing a little of the Goyt's polluted past, I'm a little hesitant to
part with the readies before I know what the fishing's like.

Blimey mate! Got to be worth 25 quid to try it out alone! That amount
will be lucky to get you 4fish/day down 'ere.
Alec -Watlingtonian, (I made that one up :-)

If you fancy a paddle pop down to Tiviot Dale thats opposite the new Tesco's
park up and walk through the hedge then up the river until you see a line
of poplars lining the bankside of the path just before this there is a
gravel bar you can wade here - cast upstream along the streamer weed and
down across the bar into the streamy water -you have a chance of either Chub
or Brownies I have to add I have seen the Trout (estimate average around 1
1/2lb ) crossing the bar but never caught one yet that said float fishing
downstream I have hit a few very big fish that came off very quickly

I should have added no permit required just your rod licence
you will very likely be asked to show it, the Ranger is down most days and a
very helpful bloke

Hi Derek,

Thanks for the info. I took a look at the weekend while the missus was
running round Tesco! I couldn't see the gravel bar you mentioned.
Walking upstream on the south bank, I came first to a right-hand bend
with a sandy bank, then a footbridge, then a small island, then the
weir. I saw some small trout just upstream of the footbridge, and a
Kingfisher. Where is your gravel bar in relation to those things?

TIA
Nick

Its possible the bar may have washed out since I havent been down this
season but if you drive down to the car park at the end of the gravel track
go through the line of trees to the left and make a right turn as you reach
the river as you walk upstream there is a gap in the trees of about 50 yds
before you reach the line of trees overhanging the water you should be able
to spot the bar if its still there .The bank was about 6 feet above the
water but it is possible to scramble down through the balsam plants
http://www2.getmapping.com/preview/t...=MM& size=500
you can see the gap in the trees on this aerial photo the white V line is
the footpath out of the carpark the area you mentioned is a hundred yards or
so upstream
good luck
Derek
