Well, today was day three of a cold front and the conditions were a bit
tougher. We had bright blue skies and little wind, what there was came from the east. While the temps weren't bad, the bright skies and flat water made for a bit tougher fishing and we had to make some adjustments. Getting out a little later than anticipated, Moe and I went one way, Ronnie Garrison and Doc went the other, with promises made to keep in touch and let the others know what was going on. My first fish came from a gravel edge on a (to quote Gil) "Long Slinky Point" and it hit a fluke that had a chartreuse dipped tail. Moe got bit on a carolina rigged lizard but shook it off, not wanting to sore mouth the fish too much before the tourney. Working the gravel showed some more fish, but we continued moving around the lake, wanting to see what else was shaking. Checking the weeds, thinking they might be buried, we worked that as well, but had little to show for our efforts besides one pike and a couple short hits. Working the wood on deep edges seemed to produce a little better and two smallies came from the same hole, a piece of deep timber on a dropshot rig. http://www.outdoorfrontiers.com/modu...&album=2&pos=1 http://www.outdoorfrontiers.com/modu...&album=2&pos=0 Ronnie caught two nice keeper smallies usin a worm in the wood and Doc did battle with a 36" muskie that grabbed his Speed Worm at the side of the boat as he was lifting it from the water. On spinning tackle, he soon found out the value of backreeling big fish and using PowerPro on spinning tackle. It was tough, but the weather is supposed to be somewhat stable with the possibility of some rain on Friday. I got word that Heavy is supposed to be arriving tomorrow afternoon and Inky, an OutdoorFrontiers member will be fishing with us as well in the morning. Dang, it's been fun already, and I can't wait for the rest to show up. It's not too late to get to Rhinelander! -- Steve @ OutdoorFrontiers http://www.outdoorfrontiers.com G & S Guide Service and Custom Rods http://www.herefishyfishy.com |

Terry and I are hitting the road about noon Wednesday... should arrive
mid-morning Thursday. Our strategy is to stay fresh so we can compete against you old timers who are wearing yourself out in prefishing. Pretty good plan, huh? Besides, while we're out there getting all kinds of pre-conceived notions of what the fish "should" be doing, you'll just go out and catch some fish, probably kicking all of our butts! Moe is watching over my shoulder. He says "I can't wait to see his pretty little butt."
