You sound a little sarcastic. Patoka isn't that bad. i'd love to hear location/technique/color suggestions. Patoka has LOTS of grassbeds and lots of wood in the coves and up the rivers. Fish should be post spawn and about everywhere in the lake, so the grassbeds near spawning areas should hold some fish. There are several places in the lake where grassbeds come up against deep drops. Topwaters, buzzbaits, spinnerbaits, super flukes and supershallow cranks in shad patterns should do well. Plastics work well in watermelons, purple/green flake and pumpkin/green flake. Brad Coovert 2003 Angler of the Year, Greenfield Bassmasters http://www.greenfieldbassmasters.com |

Our club will be there in August for a tourney this year. thanks for the advice, i'll be in heaven if i get to see a few hit topwater lures. and i'll have my usual ton of 6" lizards. If the topwater bite is on, you will have fun. We had a tourney there two years ago and all I fished for two days was a Skitter Pop around shoreline grass. Other baits I have faired well with on top were Super Spook Jr., Sammys, Splash-Its, Super Flukes and High Rider Double Buzzbaits. Baby and Mid minus cranks do well over submerged grass. Spinnerbaits also. As for plastics, 6" lizards, Baby Brush Hogs, Texas rigged worms and 5" Senkos always get some bites. If the grass is matted in some of the coves and bays, a frog may get some action also dragged over the grass. In fact, it lives in the garage. I'll clean the snow off the wife's car for her. Brad Coovert 2003 Angler of the Year, Greenfield Bassmasters http://www.greenfieldbassmasters.com |

Average Bass is 16.5 inches.
Used to be there was no shad as baitfish in the lake. Apparently there has been a recent introduction of shad to the lake and crappie are supposed to be really growing because of it, but the sunfish population is also exploding. I do not know if it was intentional or an illegal shad introduction. Lake used to have some very clear water in certain areas. An old gravel pit or stone quarry was crystal clear. Enjoy, Carlos |
