Default Top 10 Fly Fishing Practical Jokes

Okay, after the Pirate pulled his stunt over the weekend (admit it, he
got you, you just read the rest of the thread before responding), I
would like to hear your best fly fishing practical jokes. Extra points
go if they were ROFF related.
One I would start out with, is a certain North Cakalakian tying his
favorite fly on your tippet. The joke comes in after the 6th or 7th
missed take when you realize he cut the hook off.

That's just wrong on many levels, Scott. Funny, but wrong.

Yah know, after years of therapy, I had almost forgotten that one.
Damn, now the murderous rage has returned and I'm driving south to find
the usual suspect. See Ya!

A similar thing happened to me on the Rapid one daymore than a few
years ago. I got tired of catching 13 inch landlocked salmon and cut
the hook off. The fish were rising, but they were small landlocks and
small brookies. I had caught my fill, but really didn't want to
leave, so I cut the hook off of a #16 Goddard Caddis. I was fishing
at the dam (Zimmerman's Run), and must have "missed" 15 or 20 takes,
much to the amusement of a newbie dude who sat on the stairs leading
down to the runway I was fishing from. It was fun in that I felt the
initial tug of the take, and I didn't have to reel in another little
brookie/salmon.

I finally left for a hot shower and a cold martini and the dude took
my spot. At dinner that evening he was bragging about how he had
"out-fished this old dude" and took six salmon at the dam. He
explained how this "old dude" couldn't set the hook on a rise. He
didn't recognize me, but after dinner when he was walking past our
cabin I called him over and showed him my "fly" and explained what I
had been doing. He was profoundly embarrassed and his face turned
several shades of red. We parted friends and actually fished together
the next day.

I can think of two. I was showing my first bamboo fly rod to two
friends. When I had my back to them, Mark said to Jay,"Now, Jay, the
cool thing about bamboo is - you see how it can bend WAAAYYYYY over like
this?" He then snapped a dry twig he was holding. I spun on my heel,
horrified, only to discover the ruse. It took a few minutes to bring my
blood pressure down!

Another was the time I used my buddy Tim's new digital camera to take
his picture with his fish. As he was unhooking and releasing it, I
dropped a similar sized rock in the water, then cursed - as if I had
fumbled the camera. He was hopping around for about 30 seconds over
that one.

Which reminds me of an incident during Wally's Spring Fling (3rd roff
clave). PJ Roberts had borrowed our distiguished trial lawyer's 3
weight rod to do some fishing on a creek that required a fairly long
hike to get to. It seems that the rod was "changed" somehow during
the time it left wayno's hands and the time it got back to clave
central. I will never forget PJ standing on the rear deck and telling
wayno, "Watch this!" as he made a casting move and the rod bent in a
rather unorthodox manner. The rod was broken, but it took the casting
action to point out the rupture in the graphite material. Apparently
PJ had hiked into the mountain stream, put the rod together, attached
the reel and strung the line, attached a fly, and made the first cast
before he realized the rod was broken.

His demonstration of the broken rod at clave headquarters later that
day was met with much laughter from all present, and finger pointing
between PJ and wayno.
