Default Fishing report part deux

Hit the SNP this morning about 0830 and walked in to x-river from the
bottom. Not a soul to be seen all day. beautiful weather and the air was
full of Sulphurs, Tan Caddis, and Stoneflys. The Brookies were slow to
start, perhaps due to the chilly 43 F. air temp and lower than normal water.
They soon warmed to a #16 Lt. Cahill with multiple fish coming from each of
the larger pools. Fished 2 1/2 hours and handled about 20 fish. I walked
in wearing hiking shoes and carrying waders and did the same on the return,
it was definitely a plus. After a fine epicurian delight at the Chinese
buffet in Culpeper I stopped in to check out the new fly shop. Nice place,
too many clothes, they talk too much about themselves but they do have
exclusive access to a stretch of the Rose River. That stretch (about a
mile) is managed with massively large Rainbows and hybrids. Only the few,
the elite of the elite, the very essence of the quintessential flyfishermen
can fish there (ie. rod fee). By direct invitation of the owner (because I
listened to all his fish stories and not once called him a low down filthy
liar) I will grace the miniscus of that stretch of river tomorrow morning
beginning at zero-dark-thirty hours.

Fished that private stretch of the Rose on Thursday morning. Not another
soul in sight. My second cast brought my first fish, a measured 31"
Rainbow. It turned out not to be my largest fish of the day. The fish were
hard work but 7 trout to hand, 3 big-fish break-offs on 5X tippet, and
numerous long-range releases later I can say I never landed a fish under 24
inches unless it was a chub or fall fish. It was nice to be passing by the
stream-side gazeebo at noon to take a break and have lunch. The only thing
missing was a female gilley in hotpants serving Margaritas and tying the hot
fly of the day. Needless to say I'm setting aside a portion of the fishing
budget for return trips.
