From:
http://www.durangoherald.com/asp-bin...ut060728_1.htm "The anglers, assisted by a stalwart group of Duranglers guides, caught, measured and released 604 fish during the tourney. The Chiliheads, better known as Matt Arias, Beatle Abshagen, Shane Voss and Craig Deeds, won the tournament with 1,503 total points. The Stockers (Max Scholfield, Yandel Bean, B.K. Bower and Bob Sagle) came in second at 991 points, with the Lost Boys (Ty Brown, Bill Brown, Dale Smith and Don Freemeyer) just a hookup behind with 981." Given a mortality around 5% this is over 30 fish that were killed by this competition. Your pal, TBone Guilt replaced the creel |

If the 12 guys mentioned had taken a limit of 4 fish a piece (reg. on NC wild trout waters, Pisgah National Forest Game Lands included), there would have been 48 dead trout! I Have a sinkin' feelin' that there were a good many more people involved in the overall tournament. Op Your pal, TBone Guilt replaced the creel |

Your pal, TBone So you don't *really* care about the mortality rate or conservation, you just care about them as a food source? Op Not at all. It's just that the ethical sportsman and the law agree that wasting game meat is a criminal offense. If we fish for and kill an animal we have an obligation to use the meat. This is the first thing a hunter or fisherman learns but they, apparently, don't even teach this anymore. Using animals for food is another story and one that has biblical ramifications. A much, much more difficult discussion will ensue when we go there, but it's readily apparent that pure catch and release fishing is hardly defensible as much as people 'rationalize' it. TBone |
