Rod Suggestions

I'll be tossing some very heavy (3/4 to 1 oz) spinnerbaits in a few weeks,
and I'm putting together a rig to throw them on. I bought a Loomis SBR813C.
Now I need the right reel & line to gain 1) Maximal distance
2) Maximal retrieve speed
I need to burn these blades as fast as possible.

Any suggestions would be appreciated guys.

The new Curado 7:1 might be a idea? and I might try McCoy braided line 20
lbs

Not to dis the Curado, but I'm looking for something a bit higher-end. And
if I'm gonna go the braided route I'd probably use 50-65#.

I hear ya, high quality is always best, but Daiwa's Zillion reel takes in
31" of line per turn, and the cheaper Daiwa Procaster Tournament takes in
34" of line per turn. If the tournament is worth it, the cheaper throw away
Procaster might be worth the limited use. But you already know the line
too, Seaguar Fluorocarbon 20-lb test - sensitive, low stretch, high abrasion
resistant, super low visibility.

Easy answer: Shimano Japan Antares DC7. Shimano's Digital Cast Control
and a 7:1 retrieve ratio in a low profile reel.

Well if retrieve speed is an issue obviously one of the newer 7:1 reels
would be the ticket.

TE1170PT 11 Burner 7.0:1 125 yd./12 lb. Right-Hand
TE1171PT 11 Burner 7.0:1 125 yd./12 lb. Left-Hand

The PT series in 7:1 looks like a good bet, and I have had very good luck
with the PT reels, although I don't own a burner. I like the mag brake if
for no other reason than its quickly and easily adjusted as needed.

As afar as distance. The smallest limpest line possible. My instinct would
be to use 14# Suffix Seige. Its an incredibly good line and very limp for a
mono that heavy. Obviously braid might give you heavier strength for the
diameter, and Stren Super Braid is smooth enough to cast very well. Still
knowing my own skills I would think I would launch a few spinner baits into
orbit going for maximum distance with braid because it has no give. Much
like your own experiences with flourocarbon line. The most minor catch,
backlash, or over run will cause the line to snap with such heavy baits.
Mono will give. In fact with such heavy baits I might even move upto 17
Seige, but one of your points was distance.

low-profile reels or more "manly-sized"? My only concern is line capacity.
I'm thinking of going with 50-65# Stren Superbraid.

Its a low profile similar to the Accurist, but still look at the capacity.
125 yards of 12lb seems adequate. 50lb Super Braid is about the same
diameter as 12lb mono.

I am holding a spool of 65lb Super braid which reads 0.41mm that converts
to about .02 inches. I am guessing it will be about the same diameter as a
high quality 20lb mono.

Anyway... I am guessing 80-90 yards of 50lb should be no problem after
putting on 10+ yards of mono backing.

P.S. I have heard real good things about the Suffix braid, but I have not
had a chance to sample it yet. A quick check of their website shows about
the same diamters as the Stren.

OK Bob, I went with the 7:1 Quantum Tour Edition, just as you suggested. I
had $80 in Cabelas points so it took some of the sting out of the pricetag.
Also decided to go with 50# Super Braid Stren. Will update with performance
report, I'm gonna heave some big SW's up there.

Remember... dial it in right. With a big blade even a minor backlash will
launch it into orbit on a cast... yes even with 50lb braid. I launched my
1st big cash winning SWL that way.
