SAN FRANCISCO - Retired Associate Justice Sandra Day O'Connor of the
Supreme Court of the United States will sit with judges of the U.S.
Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit next week in San Francisco.
Justice O'Connor will serve on three-judge panels hearing oral
arguments on Oct. 18 and 20 in the third-floor courtrooms of the James
R. Browning U.S. Courthouse, 95 Seventh Street.

"We are honored to have Justice O'Connor not only back in the Ninth
Circuit, but sharing the bench with our judges in hearing appeals,"
said Ninth Circuit Chief Judge Mary M. Schroeder of Phoenix.

Waiter, check please.

O.k., ten hours and nobody comments. I guess I'm the only one who doesn't
get it, huh?

Nope. I didn't get it either, but I also figured I was the only
one. :-)

It must have something to do with it being the often-loony,
often-overturned 9th...maybe for the couple of days of O'Connor's
participation there'll be a chance they'll make a few sane rulings...or
at least ones that don't require the higher courts to break out the
now-preprinted "knocker," or NCRR form ("N inth C ourt R eversal R
uling" form)...if anything spoke to a/the problem of US Federal Judges
being appointed for life, the 9th could be the entire valid argument...

OTOH, if it is intended to be a slap at O'Connor, I'd offer that she is
in the top 10% of all USSC members, past and present - brains, ethics, a
sense of humor, and she can ride a horse, too...

I have no idea if this helps,
R
