Looks like it washed up on the beach two days ago! What's up with that?

Nope, it was caught out of 30 feet of water (surface temp 37) on a drop
shot rig. It fought as well as any bass its size could be expected to
fight in water that cold. It was one of a half dozen or so we caught
from the same point, and the only one that looked like that.

The black blotches are semi-common on fish out here, and seem especially
common in colder water. But the underlying color of this fish was
downright scary. The tail was super-dark green. The rest of the fish was
kind of yellowish/cream color, with only the vaguest hint of typical
bass markings along its flank. It also had a slight bug-eyed appearance,
which added to the the 'first impression' thought of a Koi as it came up
from the depths.

I use to catch a lot of bass with black blotchs on them in the Poconos, but
that color on that fish makes it look really really sick.

On a good note there is a 2800 acre lake about 30 minutes from my house
here. Will definetly check that out soon as temps continue in the low 50's
here. and another one about 700 acres. here is what it says it has...

Muskie, crappie, largemouth bass, catfish and bluegill are plentiful.

They also have seasonal rental docks, so I could put a small boat there.
Heck wouldn't mind catching some muskies and largemouths
