Everyone on that site is so polite and afraid to step on the toes of the owners/administrators that it sometimes seems to be a fantasyland. The owners, however, have very strong opinions and, as Tom notes, are not afraid to get up on the soapbox and rant. I occasionally visit FAOL, and get the feeling I am on the "Stepford Flyfishing Site". |

Some people find this looney bin overwhelming, and some find it invigorating. One of those groups is missing something. For those inclined to organize their lives around the principle of a perceived need to be punished, a place devoted exclusively to polite discussion of fly fishing will do as well as any other, I suppose. And there is no arguing the obvious fact that many people evince a genuine....and even desperate....need for protection from the ravages of "rec.outdoors.flyfishing."
