The problem is, I can catch bass like crazy in my lake, from 2 to 10 pounds.
I live about 1/2 mile from the escambia river in north florida, and cant catch a bass in there for nothing. what am I doing wrong? Im using the same lure (worms, redbug and junebug) and doing everything like I do in the lake, just cant seem to get a bass.. |

![]() What types of areas are you fishing in the river? Bass in a river system hold in different areas than bass on a lake out of comfort and necessity. Find back waters out of the main river channel, or Wing dams off the main (and confluence) areas. Some times river fishing for bass is much easier than lake fishing for them, because they are more predictable. I say sometimes, because there are times when water conditions will completely change the whole scenario (not unlike lake conditions), but constant moving water, if you pay attention to your surrounding can usually give away prime areas. Find areas where the bass can both feed, and conserve energy at the same time. It doesn't make sense for them to sit face into the fastest current using all their energy to hold themselves in place. They will look for ambush areas right out of the current and jump out and snag food as it comes by. The nice thing about river bass is that they are not "as" affected by weather changes as lake fish. Well, if you're catching bass in the lakes around you, are you fishing where the fish are living? Lake and river fish will have similar diets, tastes in lures and feeding habits so the same lures should work well. Try looking for current break areas, stumps, trees, thick weeds, anything that will deflect current and will hide a bass. -- Steve @ OutdoorFrontiers http://www.outdoorfrontiers.com G & S Guide Service and Custom Rods http://www.herefishyfishy.com |
