Thursday morning I did a good walk down from the tunnel parking lot to
one of my favorite spots. I caught 6 fish in less than an hour. A size 18 bead-head PT was the fly of the day. The water temp was 50 and there were snow flurries as I was catching fish. The air temps were in the high 30's. I had to quit when my fingers and legs became numb. I went back to the trailer to "regroup" and head over to Fishing Creek. I fished where I had met Mike Shaw last month (in front of the cabin) and upstream. At about 2PM someone rang the dinner bell and fish were all over the surface. I tried 4 or 5 different flies including the BWO (size 20) but caught nothing. I noticed gray flies bouncing on the surface but the fished seemed to be taking something a lot smaller. Any ideas? Friday I fished at Ingleby. I caught 5 or 6 trout and 2 or 3 large suckers. A size 18 bead- head PT was the fly of the day. That was between 10 and 2 PM. The air temps were in the high 40's. On Saturday Tim James and Ron Roy joined me from the Washington area and I took them back to Ingleby. This time the temperatures were in the 50's but a strong wind negated any expected feeling of being warmer. We all hooked fish. I got a 15 and a 17 incher as well as a couple of others but smaller. That's in addition to about 5 suckers. The suckers were in the 14 to 17 inch category. Yes, a size 18 bead head PT was the fly of the day. The trailer is winterized and I'll be dreaming of spring. |

Try the "Bouncing Gray Fly" fly. Glad to see the sucker Mojo was working. The
other idea would be to stay home and fish the Big Elk with me and get skunked like I did. Lou T |
