"Senator Claire McCaskill of Missouri, introduced legislation that would
declare that any child born abroad to citizens serving in the United
States military would meet the constitutional requirement that anyone
serving as president be a “natural born” citizen."

I was born in Landstuhl, Germany while my Dad, a staff sergeant
in the Air Force, was stationed nearby. If this McCaskill bill
passes, and it has the support of Barack Obama, then for the
first time in my life I will be eligible to run for President
of these United States !!!

Watch out boyos, all you nymph fishermen are gonna be TOAST !

BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA !!!!!

Not to throw water on your joke..........but the current discussion
McCain is a red herring. He, and you are already legally able to
be prez.
And, as usual, Sen. Claire (one of my senators, ugh) is wasting time,
while the interstate highways here rot.

cheers

oz, considering Tanneycomo this weekend

McCain's situation is slightly different in that the Canal Zone,
where he was born, was under US control. Germany in 1956 was not
under US control. I do not have a Birth Certificate, I have a
Geburtsurkunde. Try explaining *that* to the Little League. ;-)
So far as I know, and I have the State Department papers to prove
it, I am a Naturalized Citizen and not a "natural born" citizen
as specified in the Constitution.

So unless you're a constitutional lawyer or a voting member of
the US Supreme Court I'd have to take your opinion regarding my,
and John McCain's, citizenship status with a large dollop of salt.

And, as usual, Sen. Claire (one of my senators, ugh) is wasting time,

Branson. Yuk. Come over to Illinois next week to shoot some

while still waiting for the legal crowd to weigh in, doesn't the term
"natural born US citizen" refer to those that were US citizens at birth?? In
which case, both McCain and Fortenberry would classify as such.

That's not the way I understand it. My parents were US citizens when
I was born but I was born on German soil so technically I was born a
German and remained a German until I was "naturalized".

It was also my understanding that I could renounce my "naturalization"
until the age of 18 and become German once again. Not a small
consideration during the Vietnam era.
