Hello,
Have always wanted to try the Battenkill around Manchester, Vt., and have the following questions, please: a. is it "worth it" ? Or just stick to the Deerfield ? b. how is it in the heart of the summer, e.g., late July into Aug. ? c. how necessary or desireable is a Guide ? Any other thoughts or opinions would be appreciated. Thanks, Bob |

![]() Allot of tubers in the summer but it is good. The Deerfield is good below the Damm where is runs into the Lake Wittingham is good. The best stream to check out is the Mettawee. It is an awesome wild rainbow, brown, and brookl stream. It is about 30 to 40 minutes from Manchester. Get a guide. It is tricky to find the non private water. Even the private water you can fish if the guide knows the farmers. -- Big Bushkill ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Big Bushkill's Profile: http://www.njflyfishing.com/vBulleti...hp?userid=2693 View this thread: http://www.njflyfishing.com/vBulleti...ad.php?t=15238 ----== Posted via Newsfeeds.Com - Unlimited-Unrestricted-Secure Usenet News==---- http://www.newsfeeds.com The #1 Newsgroup Service in the World! 120,000+ Newsgroups ----= East and West-Coast Server Farms - Total Privacy via Encryption =---- |

Thanks, Bob At that time of year, I would suggest fishing the West Arlington area. You will find very good Trico action early in the morning, and usually BWO spinner falls and terrestrial activity late in the evening. As the previous poster said, avoid mid day, as the tubers, swimmers, and boaters make life difficult. I wouldn't bother with a guide. The West Arlington section is easily accessible from rte 313 and from River Road, which parallels 313 from the opposite bank, and if you have even limited trout fishing experience, you can locate some good spots to fish. I haven't fished it recently, but those that have tell me it has rebounded pretty well since the C&R regulations were instituted several years ago. Also, this is one of the prettiest stretches of river that I have ever fished. |
