North Fork in Arkansas

Caught a bunch of browns and rainbows on spinners, spoons, and a 4lb
RB on a Rapala Monday. Much too windy for a fly rod.

That night, it dropped to mid 20's and the water hose on our trailer
at Quarry CoE campground froze.

But the next morning was GLORIOUS. Calm, heavy fog on the water, even
though still high. Fish were hungry for #18 zebras and brown scuds.
Very quiet, with lots of herons and ospreys that I think may have been
migrating through.

Only fishermen on the water were old retired farts like myself. We
told lies between bouts and helped each other net the fish. Cold
hands, but warm coffee and great fishing.

The North Fork, below Norfork Dam, flows for about a dozen or so miles
before meeting the White River from Bull Shoals, which is also a fair
trout river.

Its been my experience that brown beadhead hare's ear (#16 to #22) work
pretty well.

Actually, I seem to recall that the North Fork river is only about 4 1/2
miles long from the dam to the White River.

IMO, a good area of water is the C&R water just upstream of the handicap
access at Owl's Bend (IIRC), particularly in the chute between the
island and the west (northwest) bank. The large pool on the east side
of the island has some big browns but they got that big by being pretty
spooky. They will hit very small flies bumping along the bottom.

ooooopppppsssss -- hit wrong button

I had left my neoprenes home and the old hippers in the truck leaked
pretty badly, so all my fishing was dry footed.
DUH on the distance. I know better.
One of the guys there Tue recommended the Owl Bend area. As I don't
unhitch at the dam, I couldn't drive down. I am going back after deer
season, however, and will be alone, sleeping in the truck and moving
around. So may try it.
