The newest virus circulating is the UPS Delivery Failure. You will receive
an email from UPS Packet Service along with a packet number. NOTE: The word
packet is mis-spelled on this line. It will say that they were un-able to
deliver a package sent to you on such and such a date. It then asks you to
print out the invoice copy attached. DON'T TRY TO PRINT THIS. IT LAUNCHES
THE VIRUS! Pass this warning on to all your PC operators at work and home.
This virus has caused Millions of dollars in damage in the past few days.

I've been getting bogus notifications of FedX shipments for things I
haven't ordered, along with a link for tracking that I suspect is bait
for a phishing expedition. I delete them without following the link.

That's true about viruses, but lots of spam is just phishing, not
viruses, and if you take the bait and offer personal info, no
operating system in the world will save you.

I'm noticing lots of "gift card" spam recently...

In all seriousness...when did Snopes come under the crosshairs of the
conservative right? Apparently, rumors of a 'strong left-wing bias' in
snopes has become regular anti-liberal fodder for the conservatives,
and has become part of the mot de guerre.

Another guy I know contacted them about one of their 'stories'. He
provided them with a contact in the business they were talking about,
complete with phone numbers. Came back a week later, their story had
changed just a bit and referenced a 'source' in the company, but, when
my buddy talked to his friend in the company, he found out snopes had
never contacted him, nor anyone else in upper management. So snopes
is off my list of believeable sources.

You're assuming that your buddy was the only feeder source they had,
or that your buddies friend knew with certaintly if Snopes had
contacted anyone anywhere else anywhere in the company. Also, "a
buddies friend" is a rather distant source....and you never did
discuss whether or not the original story was true or not. Give us
more details.
