The last fish that I caught in 2003 was Dec.29 on the Gunpowder River
near the dam ,a small brown trout was fooled by a size 10 bead head Green Weenie,so,on a whim I decide to tie and take with me on a trip to Aruba a salt water version of a Green Weenie ( 1/4 bead head on a size 4 stainless streamer hook) now Iam not saying that you should leave your Crazy Charlies and such at home but last week I was able to fool fish in the Caribbean on this simple and easy to tie fly...Most of the fish I caught were Pompano (I think) and about 5 other spieces ,which I don"t have a clue as to what they where..I fished mostly near jetties and coral reefs that I could reach by wading.Needless to say Clousers ,deceivers and small shrimp patterns worked also..While fishing near some almost razor sharp coral structure I managed to shred a small section of the outter coating on my intermediate sinking line, what a bummer,no spare,no fly shop and no sympathy from my wife.So I had to improvise and I offer this tip to anyone who might find themselves in a similar situation,"Dental Floss", wrapped over the damaged area saved the day and them some.. Had a nice time,JC |
