I saw the post requesting how to properly put crawfish onto a fish hook to
use them as bass bait.I'm surprised that no one has responded to the post as I am also interested in this technique. Any input on this? ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---- |

Any input on this? One method is to simply run the hook through the bottom portion of the tail and out through the top portion. Another way is to start under the tail at the rear and run the hook in then out as you would a plastic worm but leaving the hook exposed. Keep in mind the latter will leave the hook pointing down where the former has the hook facing up. Bottom composition should dictate which methods you use. The trick is to always keep the hook in the meaty portion of the tail so as not to kill the crawfish. Jerry |

Driving a hook through the meaty part of the tail seems counter-intuitive considering you want the mudbug to live and to move about. Anyone ever try just "Crazy Glue"ing a hook to the back of a crawdaddy? |

Anyone ever try just "Crazy Glue"ing a hook to the back of a crawdaddy? Putting the hook through the tail is the best method to allow the crawdad to live as there are no vitals there. The only time they use the tail is to rapidly dart backwards to avoid becoming prey. As a matter of fact they can still move around very well hooked that way and you actually have to give them a slight pull every few minutes to keep them from crawling under something. Jerry |

I use crawfish or crayfish for smallmouth Bass all the time. The best way I
found to hook them was through their backend in the fleshy part. I hold them right behind their pincers backwards so I don't get nipped. I then stick the hook through. Hope that helps.
