Saturday morning I got to see the start of the Wilderness 101 mountain
bkie race. They start in the park at Coburn go up Penns Creek Rd, make a left, cross the creek go up past Hemlock Acres and keep on truckin' for a total of 101 miles. Incredible! The race ends coming up from Ingleby across the trestle bridge, through the tunnel, a left at Stans and head back to the park. The winner made it in about 6 hours and 40 minutes. I saw license plates from Florida, Michigan, Indiana, Colorado... I talked to a couple of participants at the Elk Creek Cafe Friday evening and they said it was a big deal. It was one of 7 big races in the US. Here are a couple of videos. The handheld camera did better for me then did the Kodak resting on my cooler. I took the video about 1.5 miles from the park alonig Penns Creek. Over 200 riders paying up to $190 for this kind of punishment. Handheld: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y133OsvdZbU Stationary camera. (about 150 seconds into it, one of the riders greets me with a "good morning" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gBbL36zVRCw |
