Default Oh, me of little faith

I've been out a couple times lately, bobicator fishing the local river.

While, yes, I have caught fish many times and places (including this local
river ) on small nymphs, it always seems like luck, not the result of
fishing. My recent journal entry says, " I really need to invest more time
in learning bobicator nymphing. I fished a very small BHPT and a small
Copper John around the Honolulu Bar area. Both should be close enough to
the baetis nymphs active here and now, I'd think, but I never moved a fish
and ( this may be key) never expected to ... although I know others catch
fish nymphing this water "

Once or twice each year, usually in the "off season" for the type fishing
I'm willing to drive to find, I feel totally inadequate asa fly fisher
because I just can't find "faith" in nymphing the water. Maybe I need to
find a roving bobicator evangelist and split shot revival meeting .....
something .... to make me a "true believer" .... I wanta believe, I really
do, but by the third cast my mind is elsewhere and going home to work some
dogs sounds like more fun than fishing

I'd like to be able to more enjoy my local river and times on any river when
indicator nymphing is about the only game available I do fish the
technique and do catch some fish, but, I find I need a sense of optimism to
enjoy fishing. And even though I have caught fish with the technique, it
never makes me optimistic.

Fishing to rising trout I EXPECT to catch a fish every single cast ....even
when I haven't actually caught one all day .... even "fishing the water"
with dries, I usually "expect" rises very often as I work up the creek ...
"there will be one in that seam" ... "there has to be a nice one beside
that rock" For some reason, however, the exact same type lies that I
expect to hold fish and produce with dries don't generate the confidence
with nymphs .... for me. And I don't think it's a lacking in the method,
it's either I'm not good enough, practiced enough, at it, or something .

It's a matter of intensity, I greatly enjoy the "hunters intensity," mental
involvement, and concentration that come with optimism. I watch and I see
other's indicator nymph fishing with such concentration .... and I envy them
..... my seasons and each of my fishing days would be longer, maybe more
enjoyable, if I could find more "faith" in the technique

'John 20:29 - Jesus saith unto him, Thomas, because thou hast seen me,
thou hast believed: blessed are they that have not seen, and yet have
believed. '

Larry, Larry, Larry, why, when you have seen, do you not now believe?

If you know there are fish there, then expect the fish will come. You
know, cast your net, er, nymph, on the other side of the boat, er,
stream. Ya know?
