I'm new to Georgia and trying to learn good spots to fish.
Would like to start a fishing club with local people. My preference is pan fishing from the bank but I can also fish for bass. If anyone would like to form a fishing club, let me know. I live east of Atlanta but would like to meet anyone who lives east, north or south of Atlanta. Any good crappie fishing in Georgia ? -- remove the ? to reply. |

Before starting a club, visit all the local tackle shops, and boat stores.
Ask what clubs already exist in the area. I bet you will atleast find some decent bass clubs. Probably a "Rod & Gun" club as well. If you have a hard time chatting with people and asking questions just go into to buy something small that you could use anyway like a package of hooks or two. When you are checking out ask the guy at the counter what local fishing clubs there are. You will probably find some prejudices between different clubs in the area, but don't let that bother you. Those guys have lived there for years and they know each other. Its just a matter of finding which clubs you have more fun with and do more of the kind of activities you are interested in. Try to avoid getting involved with the management and politics of any club for the first year or more until you learn what is entailed and how you get along with all the guys in the club. You can have a blast at a club function and not particularly like some of the other guys if the guys you fish with most of the time are ok. -- Public Fishing & Boating Forums Fishing & Boating Link Index www.YumaBassMan.com "Redd" wrote in message .. . Even if it is not a formal club, getting a group together can and will result in friction at some point. I live east of Atlanta myself. That is a little unfortunate as I am hooked on fishing the flats in Florida where I grew up. I can not give you much help on fresh water pan fishing but the beauty of being near Atlanta and even better, east or north of there is that trout are plentiful. Even if you include panfishing you should take a few trips up to the Georgia mountains (an hour or less from you) and hit a trout stream. Be sure you are within the rules of where and when (some streams are year round and others are seasonal) and you will need to get a trout stamp. There also many lakes, natural and Corps projects as well as small ponds. Lake Lanier I know has some good crappie fishing. There are also many rivers that offer good fishing. Other than a few trips to local parks for blue gills I have only done a handful of trips for striper. That is a hoot if you can catch a school. They can be fished from the bank but you will need to do your homework to get an idea of where to fish for them. I would also suggest browsing the forum on NGTO (http://www.georgia-outdoors.com/ngto/). While the name indicates trout there is also information on local warm water fisheries.
