Since I taught the kid how to fish, I always figured I was as good as
him. After this visit, I had to admit that maybe he was a tad better than dad grin. Great trip, visited all my kids, and their kids, not enough fishing, but have another trip planned later in the year to concentrate on that. Brought back a "care" package from little John that should hold me for awhile...line, hooks, baits, and he is having Graphite USA make me a custom rod that should be here in a few weeks. I wanted to learn some more techniques than my old 'set in my ways' ones, so I asked John to show me some. Drop shotting was the one we worked on most, and although I use it some, I really found out the little tricks of it after watching him. John was writing an article for Outdoor News..."Fishing outside the box", I will try and figure out how I can post it here with this webtv thing I have, pretty neat article. It has alot to do with finesse fishing, John's philosophy is that when the bite is great, most of the real pros are gonna weigh good bags, and alot of difference between the top ten is just luck, but when the bite is really tough, the best finesse fishermen will come come out ahead every time. I don't think I would make a good finesse fisherman, too much "work" grin. I won't say how the fishing was, but being in southern California with the kid as a guide, I ain't complaining ![]() bass of my life, but a couple 6 pounders still got my juices flowing grin. Good to be back home, and can't wait to try some of my new "learning" out at Kentucky Lake! Have to catch up on the posts........ John P.S. Still the bragging dad, John and MIke won the last event of the year in the Won Miller High Life team regional series the week before I got there to make "Team of the year" three years running! He's 2nd in the ABA regionals with one tournament to go, and he's 14th on the MIller Pro circuit as a rookie...not a bad year so far! |
