I fish of Folkestone pier but still not had much luck for Bass.
How deep would people recommend a few foot off the floor, just under the surface? Also what rig would be recommended? |

Hi,
Whilst I do not know the pier in question, if it is a pier with piles as apposed to a solid pier I would fish a live sandeel on a 2/0 stainless mustad or a live prawn on a smaller hook on a 6-8ft 20lb trace with a 3 or 4 oz weight. Drop the tackle straight over the side between the piles and after hitting the bottom and taking up the slack I would wind up two turns and wait. Do not put the rod down or you may lose it. I have caught a lot of bass using this method and although it is usually better when the tide is making, I have caught at all states of the tide. The bass are around the piles looking for food and the captive bait just swimming around the pier seems to be irresistable to them. They often hit with a fair bit of power. It always makes me smile to see people head out onto a pier then cast 80 yards away when the majority of the fish are under their feet. Hope this helps, tight lines. happen to hook up with a hard fighting bass then snap off,you doom the fish with a stainless hook, use a strong wire hook to give the fish a chance. "Edward Bray" wrote in message k... How deep are the bass running? If you have large shoals of fry around then small bass and other predators may well be just below them or lurking around structure at a similar depth. Bigger bass may be lurking below them. Also what rig would be recommended? Float or lures are most flexible. Time of day (first light is best) or tide are important, the method will be less critical at these times. Some successful bassers around here atm are getting up at three and going back to bed by six. scrap folkestone pier and go down the road to sandgate castle and try live
baiting some pouting at night, you'll have much better results. yeolddangler -- linux is free, as long as you don't value your time. |
