I was just sitting here trying to figure out why Chevy would drop their Pro
Team. When I thought about it they probably get more mileage out of Sponsoring the tour events that they do a Pro team, I don't personally recall to many occasions where I actually saw a Chevy Pro Team member doing any ads in a magazine either. I do remember Bill Dance using them in his programs. I wonder if they will even continue to sponsor the Tour events anymore? Perhaps this will open the door to other Truck makers to get into the fishing scene a little heavier. Don't get me wrong one of my best tow vehicles was a 1999 4x4 Chevy Tahoe. That thing pulled a boat like nobodies business for the first 2 years I had it. I have since switched over to Ford 150's since a Chevy dealers auto mechanic told me the brake system wasn't good enough to pull a boat. I laughed at first, then I noticed that he was serious. We went round and round for a few days about it, I mean 3 sets of warped rotors in under 6000 miles, that is problem, one towing a boat shouldn't cause. They blamed it on the boat so I would have to pay for it. So I showed them, I told them to terminate my lease. Drove over bought an F-150 and offered theChevy Dealers manager a tour of my Ford when I went over to sign the papers. They did try to get me to pay for the brake system repair, I said tried ![]() The Tahoe did a great job until the Brake System failed. My monies on Ford right now, mine does a super job. With the new model out they should tow even better now. I would love to see Ford get more involved in the Tour scene, honestly I dont know if Ford even has a pro team, I don't recall ever seeing information about any. Dodge either for that matter. Anyone know if Ford or Dodge does? and what is your take on Chevy dropping their team? --- Chuck Coger http://www.fishin-pro.com |

I am sorry you had a bad experience with your local Chevrolet dealership.
But the 1500 Chevrolet Silverado/GMC Sierra Pickup has been rated the #1 Tow vehicle for the past ten years by consumers. Followed by the Ford F150, then the Chevrolet Tahoe, Chevrolet Suburban, Ford Explorer, Ford Nav, Toyota Tundra, . . . . People are very passionate about their vehicles, as they are about their boats. Their opinions are biased as to what they own. But to suddenly start going through brakes can simply be the fault of poor workmanship and/or poor materials used by your local dealer, or even yourself. If you are towing up and down steep terrain with a heavy boat on a trailer that doesn't have a braking system, or you are riding the brakes, or the traffic pattern has changed and you are now making more sudden stops. But I personally believe it is probably poor materials being used by the dealer to increase their profits. -- Craig Baugher |

You are right - I gotta take my Z-71 in tomorrow for its first brake job, and it only has 73,000 miles on it. My guess is over half of them are towing my 19 foot Stratos or my 19 foot Javelin. Guess I just got a good one. Ronnie http://fishing.about.com |

I have a 2000 Chevy 1500 Z71 and put from 4-5000 miles a month on it. When
I'm home for the weekends it's usually pulling the boat or my camper. I currently have 186,000 miles and am still on the original brakes. Had the plugs changed for the first time at 150,000 miles. It is due for times again though, that'll make five sets of tires but I'm not going to complain 'cause I haven't had to do anything else to the truck. -- Brian "Chuck Coger" wrote in message . .. I get about 15000 mile out of the front pads on my Expedition, but I tow
into 4-8000' mountains also. On the Chevy, there was a recall on my 96 Blazer, which may have also affected the big 4x4's also. They had to replace a switch that told the brake system that you were in 4x4 or 2x4. Seems the system always thinks it is in 4x4 and it reduces the rear breaking and increases the front brake pressure. Looking to replace my Expedition with a new 4x4 diesel truck. Leaning to the Chevy 2500, but neighbor works for Ford and may be able to get me a buyback 6L diesel for a very reasonable price. They seem to have the bugs on the turbo progamming worked out, but 100K warrantee included. Way more than half of the miles have been pulling bassboats and I'm on my original brakes. As far as my take on Chevy dropping their team? I really don't have an opinion one way or the other. -- Steve OutdoorFrontiers http://www.outdoorfrontiers.com G & S Guide Service and Custom Rods http://www.herefishyfishy.com |

Chuck- I just got a new Suburban & it's the greatest tow vehicle I can
imagine. I cant even feel my boat, even while going uphill. Warren "Chuck Coger" wrote in message ... I was just sitting here trying to figure out why Chevy would drop their Pro Team. That's exactly the way the Tahoe was, it was rare to feel the boat back
there even in high winds, and rarely did a passing semi blow me off the road or suck me back into them when passing. I blew a tire in the rain, and the boat went sideways, when I looked in the drivers side mirror I could see the prop. I felt a little pull, when the trailer corrected, but it was a great testament to how stable the Tahoe platform was for towing. It was a without a doubt the best tow vehicle I have had to date. It seems that both the Tahoe and Suburban were Chevy's best tow'ers. My wife has a Chevy 1500 that is comparable to my F-150 and the Ford just flat out performs it in towing. I may just start compiling opinions and facts about tow vehicles and write some kind of piece on my findings. I have never really seen an unbiased rating on tow vehicles, atleast one that covers all the bases. In fact I am going to do this. How about we start a list of the most important factors we as fisherman look for in a tow vehicle, and make a few suggestions on which vehicles we would like to see rated. Might as well take advantage of my unemployment and do something constructive ![]() new thread to gather the needs and wants. --- Chuck Coger http://www.fishin-pro.com "go-bassn" wrote in message ...
