Meg and I took a walk into a favorite Mt. Rainier lake today. The sky
was a bit hazy because of the fire in Cle Elum, but it was warm and sunny and the flowers were in their prime. At the lake, Meg pulled out her paints, and I pulled out my 3wt. I walked around to the shallows and proceeded to catch a couple dozen brook and cutthroat trout with some of the best coloring I've seen. I posted one pic on abpf. No monsters here, the biggest was 11 inches or so, several were 3 or 4 inches, 8 inches seemed to be the standard. A few of the fish left me puzzled. I don't know how to tell the difference between a golden and a cutthroat. The fish on abpf is a prime example of the fish that confuses me. The cut is obvious, but the spots are not our western fish, and the parr markings don't seem right on a cutt. What is this fish, and how do I make the distinction?
