OK, here's the deal... I have a friend, Jill, who worked as a judge's
administrator in the local courthouse. she is about 35 or so. always pleasant, cheerful, easy-going, and liked by everyone who knows her. One month ago, she was diagnosed with lou gehrig's disease (ALS) and has had to quit work. She has about a year or so to live at best. She and I used to chat about Montana and Pennsylvania. She's from PA and has relatives there and in Montana - I've shared clave pics with her, and my wife talks with her on a fairly regular basis. She loves the outdoors, esp. Montana, and she will be visiting her sister in Montana this month (near Helena, I think). She plans to visit Glacier NP too. She and her father will be driving out from PA. HERE's THE REQUEST FOR HELP: If she is able, I would like for her to experience a flyfishing float trip out there. She has expressed interest. I only know Warren, John H., and Brian N. as folks capable in such matters in Montana. If she happens to be in your area, and if I pick up the cost, can one of you guys provide the guided trip or recommend someone? It's still up in the air as her condition deteriorates and as her plans out west gel, but I'd like to do this for her if possible. Thanks... |

God, I hate hearing this stuff. 35 is way too young - many things left to do. Good luck with your plan, Jeff. When the time comes, I'm up for putting in a little cash to help offset expenses. Tim... Thanks more than you'll know for your offer, but it's not
necessary. Rachel and I want to do this for Jill if she's able, and I thought it would be great if there was someone in Montana with a ROFF connection who would be interested in doing the float. I know they would enjoy Jill's company and I would feel comfortable that she was in experienced and caring company. Jeff (and, yeah, it sucks big time... just a few months ago, she and i were talking of how lucky we were to be able to visit and enjoy hiking in Montana) Tim J. wrote: "Jeff" wrote... I'm sorry to hear about your friend, jeff. it seems like at 35 i was just really getting to know who i am and what i need in life to get me by, and to make me happy. it takes time to reach that place, and i think that for many of us we have to get out of our 20s for it to happen. it is sad for someone to be losing life , just as they may otherwise be finding their place in it i wish ya'll all the best with this endeavor. i hope she gets the opportunity to experience this adventure, as well as any other that she may have been putting off for "later." she is fortunate to have friends like you and rachel. take care- snake |

Brian N is an outfitter and can be reached at www.diamondnoutfitters.com I'm just a dope with a boat- If she wants to float and she's in the area I'd do my best - but I'm not a guide nor an outfitter ( I can't emphasize that enough!). I don't spend near as much time on the water as the local guides do, so we would be pretty much guessing as to what is fishing and what isn't on any given day. I'm also not much of a coach- if she needs "coaching", no CPR training, insurance, - yada yada yada. Can't speak for Warren. If Brian is unavailable, I'd check with John Herzer at Blackfoot River outfitters (www.bentrods.com) for Missoula area fishing. This, sadly, seems like a once in a lifetime deal. My advice would be to go for a real guide with very good references if she really wants a good day of flyfishing. If she justs wants a nice day on the river with a friend- bring the friend & lets go. john |

thanks john... i doubt jill would be serious about the fishing part of
the float, though she'd like to see it done i'm sure. it would be mainly a nice day on the montana water kinda thing... something she's never done before to my knowledge. still not sure where she'll be in montana... jeff John Hightower wrote: Brian N is an outfitter and can be reached at www.diamondnoutfitters.com I'm just a dope with a boat- If she wants to float and she's in the area I'd do my best - but I'm not a guide nor an outfitter ( I can't emphasize that enough!).
