![]() "Mike" wrote in message oups.com... Sorry Myron it's the route 74 exit or exit 69 Okay, with those directions, I'm pretty certain that I'm either going to be totally lost, or else fishing in someone's backyard swimming pool. Exit 69 off of whcih road? And is it route 74, or exit 69? Thanks, --riverman |

In Vermont, the White River, downstream from the Bethel, Vt bridge.
Take exit 3 off of I-89. "riverman" wrote in message ... I could look this up online, but its simpler to post here. :-) When does the openwater season begin in Maine for trout, togue and other freshwater fly fishing? I'm going to be in state for the last week of March, first week of April, and some of the southern water might be less solid by then. If so, I'd like to fish. --riverman Nevermind.....April 1 is opening season statewide. Which sucks, because I will probaby be flying back here on March 31. Where can a guy fish during the window of March 20-31 between Maine and DC? --riverman |

If he's directing you to the Willimantic River in the Kollar Wildlife Management Area, it's lurking behind the I84 west-bound rest area near Stafford Springs. Get on I84, and eventually get off exit 69, which is for rt 74. If you had been heading west, you take a right at the first stop sign; if heading east, make that a left. Either way, your next turn is the first right off the overpass, onto North River Road. The river will appear on your right in a half mile or so, and parking spots will show up along the next mile. This is a stream I reserve for Massachusetts' celebration of "Patriots Day" - because Connecticut doesn't have such a holiday so it keeps their workerbees off the streams ;-) /daytripper |

If you want to fish lakes, then the season starts April 1 (if you can find any unfrozen lake on that date). Also, Landlocked Salmon, and Lake Trout season (on any water) doesn't start until April 1. |

I'm looking into plane tickets, and could probably make myself be in that area around the weekend of March 26/27. At this early stage, it looks like the sweetspot in my timing will be the 24-26ish. Are folks limited to a weekend thingy? --riverman |

I've got the25th off, and could likely find some time that weekend as
well. I fish the C&R area in the Willi fairly often. Include me in, if y'all get anything going. Only word of caution....we appear to still be in full winter mode here, so the day may be better spent at the pizza shop. George |

The images that almost brings to mind.... But back to a more pertinent note. Seeing as its full-on winter still in the NorthEast, what's the odds that it will be open water in 4 weeks? I know that in a usual mid-Maine winter, we don't usually count on spring thaw until early April, but I don't know about Connecticut winters, and I have no instinct at all about this particular winter. If Ye Old Farmer's Almanac and local wisdom say that its probably still going to be a deep freeze by then, I might make better use of my limited time to get my business done in Maine, and drive down to the DC area to visit my Dear Ol' Mom, and leave a few days open to fish with the more southernly boys. Not to insult my Yankee bretheren, but if the water ain't open, it might might be hard fishing, and I only have a limited time. Any guesses at what the situation will be there in mid March? --riverman |
