![]() We have a local fly line manufacturer who is willing to knock off a prototype DT-9-F 90 foot line with a 15' front taper. He will be sending this line to me in a few days I'll probably have it on the water in a week or two. The line is AFTMA rated so it should be a good fit for 7 wt. two-handers. The intent of the line is to produce a good line for lighter rods that operates well in the 70' and under fishing distances. If this works out, the next step would be to get some fullsinkers and maybe some sinktips done as well. This line should be an excellent fit for anyone with a Sage 7136, CND Custom 1307, Loop 7116, Kispiox 7/8 and other rods in this class. The concept should work great in lighter line classes for trout speys. If anyone is interested in trying the line and providing feedback, email me your snailmail - first come, first serve. Airflow used to make one. Well sort of. One end had a 5' long runging
line instead of a short piece of level line. If you cut of 4' of the the running line, you had a double taper. they quit selling it becasue of a lack of interest. "Peter Charles" wrote in message ... Airflop has made, or at least sold, lots of things, these should on no account be confused with anything sensible, or anything that actually worked. TL MC |

TL MC I know that in the UK there are a lot of people who can't stand Airflo yet their spey lines are highly rated on this side of the pond. Must have been an accident, or somebody else is responsible in the USA Some of the worst gear I have ever used, seen ,or heard of. Coupled with extremely aggressive and often quite incredible marketing. Quite apart from airflop, I think "marketing" is a major curse for modern anglers. Almost impossible to find the truth in the thicket of exaggerations, lies, and similar nonsense. Of course it is no better in other areas, but it somehow seems worse in the angling area. TL MC |

TL MC I do know that their old trout stuff was crap but I have a trout Delta and I love it. I probably own some thing like four spey lines, one trout, a running line or two, one or two sal****er, plus 12 or so shooting heads and not a problem in the bunch. TL MC Oh ya, about marketing -- while I like Sage single handers, I think their two-handers are grossly over-rated. One of the worst is the 9140-4 which is just a gutless, wobbly, noodle. Just read recently where some PNW guide rates the 9140-4 as the best "spey" rod ever. I love handing one of my "cheap" Daiwa Lochmors to a Sage snob for a couple of casts then watch their "deer-in-the-headlights" look. Flabergasted is about the right description for them. The Scots have been building salmon rods longer than any PNW angler has been alive -- I think they know a thing or two about making them. I have a few double handers, but have not used them much, and I am still a lousy Spey caster. I favour the Scandinavian underhand cast, which I am a great deal better at! I canīt really comment on Spey rods at all. Sage do make some of the best single handed rods available though. I have a couple and they really are first class. TL MC |

TL MC I like their single-handers also, just wish they'd expand their two-hand design horizons beyond the uses of PNW anglers. They flog their soft rods as being "Traditional" as if these rods draw their design influence from traditional Scottish salmon rods. It's all bull****. They're designed to cast (flop? whip?) 40' shooting heads and T-14 tips about 70' in the Skagit river. Unfortunately, a lot of Sage buyers think they're getting a rod that performs like B&W or a Hardy. What a laugh. Their so-called "Euro" rods are supposed to be like Scandinavian underhand rods but they're just stifff sticks that you have to flog to get to work. We should put a collection together to buy a Loop Green or a Vision rod, and send it to Sage so they can find out how a real Scandinavian rod casts. So far I've casted their 6126, 7136 (all three models), 8124, 8136, 9140-4, 9141, 10161 plus one or two others that I've mercifully forgotten. The 6126 is nice but really a 7 wt. The latest 8136 isn't bad and the newest 7136 is decent -- but both are overpriced for the performance. The older 7136s and the rest were just crappy. The 10161 I literally could not cast. It is the only two-hander I've ever picked up that I couldn't do anything with. In contrast, I own an ancient Daiwa 16' - 10-12 wt. that I use to lift and cast the entire 90' head of an 8/9 XLT -- so it ain't the size or the weight of the Sage that did me in. BTW, I use the Underhand cast too, as well as grafting the Underhand power stroke on to all of my other casts -- a great shoulder saver.
