![]() This was the day I knew I had to get on some fish. Seems the orange/brown senko type baits I was throwing with Charles was going to be the way I started off. I call them the Chicken and waffle senko. I was paired with Dave and Charles was paired with Chris. I knew from day 1 that Charles would be heading back to that spot we caught our fish in, I also had plans to fish it with Dave, as I thought we could easily pick up a few fish to start the day. We saw Charles take the inside lane to the spot, Dave asked where are we going? we can beat them there, right up to the point where he gunned it and my hat went flying off we might have. I told him to forget it but he turned around anyway. Nice guy As we pulled up we saw Charles sitting on the point and another boat working the bank that had produced our fish the day before. We opted to start on the other end. Charles and Chris fished behind the strangers. We passed the other boat working our way in with a few taps but no fish, as we met Charles and Chris at the halfway mark we found out that Charles had already boated 3 keepers on Senkos. We passed and both boats commented to the other about picking up the rest of the fish that each had left behind. True to those words both boats did. I managed my first keeper a good 2 -2 1/2 lb LM, ten feet later I managed another good keeper LM on the Chicken and Waffle pattern, the third one I grabbed was about 20 feet further down a much smaller spot but none the less a keeper fish. Chris managed to grab one on Charles's boat. I felt good about having three keepers in the boat by 8:30. Little did I know that we wouldn't get another fish until about 1:00, another small keeper spot that took a tiny brush hog in the rocks. We headed back to the spot from the morning but nothing was biting. I was hoping to get my 5th fish and call it a day but it wasn't to be. Soon after we saw Charles and Chris pull up. Seems they had they same luck we did after they left. Both boats had 4 fish and it was just about time to head in. We met everyone at the ramp and weighed in. My 4 fish went 6.97 and judging by the other weights that were being brought in, It looked like I might have a chance to take one away, but alas, It wasn't meant to be as Joe H bagged a good limit of fish and Seans impressive day 1 limit combined with his 3 fish from day two were enough to seal the victory for him. I felt great about taking third overall considering there were a lot of very good anglers there, but the difference between 1st and 3rd was just the one that got away. Look out NWC, I'm ready |
