What baits & tactics would you use whan trying a new water? ....but in general you're on the right lines. Dawn and dusk visits will show fish activity. Mid day tree climbing with bino's and polaroids will give another set of clues. A few free crusts (waterfowl permitting) allowed to drift accross the water will tell you more. If the water is coloured then leave it 'til the zooplankton clear out the spring bloom - if it doesn't go then the water is overstocked and the fish won't be worth catching 'til nature has whittled them down a bit.
