Default Penns weekend

Well, it took me two days to get around to it, but here is a brief trip
report. I arrived in Coburn on Thursday morning, to find a sleeping Handyman
in the trailer already. It seems Mike S had forgone a normal evening sleep,
and left CT directly around midnight to fish at dawn. He paid for it
throughout the weekend...... By the early afternoon, we headed out to Penns.
It was low, flowing very gently, and very clear. The whole weekend
maintained those conditions with varying cloud cover, but often, it was
bright overhead, as if things weren't tough enough. Still and all, a few
risers could be seen, along with visible feeding trout lower down in the
water. It turned out, at least for me, that very small(#18-20) wet flies on
6x tippets worked as well as anything could. The first day yielded a couple
small fish, and a lot of lost flies, as my timing was WAY off. After that, a
dozen or so Penn's trout per day, ranging from 3 inches to 17 inches , came
to a collection of tan or black wets, and Pheasant Tail nymphs, all moved
gently in front of interested fish. We were joined, in the course of the
weekend by Bruce Fisher(softhackle), Frank Reid, and finally, by Mike Makela
and family. The boys threw rocks at Bruce and Frank, handily rewarding the
pittance I paid themg. All in all, it felt great to be out fishing after
about 5 weeks off, and back to Penn's after a 10 week absence. Despite
little rainfall, the place is still very much alive and well!

Well, it was indeed a good weekend. Went to the Orioles game Friday night
and watched them get beat by the Sox (by the way, am rooting for them right
now as the YANKEES SUCK!). Head hit the pillow at 12:30 and alarm went off
at 3:30. Hightailed it up the hill to meet Tom and Mike just rolling out of
the trailer.
Water was extremely low. Did 90% of the fishing at Stan's pool. The
pheasant tail was the trick, though I did get a Penn's Creek Slam (Brownie,
Smallie and Chub) on Frank's Fitin' Craw. Got to chat with Bruce Fisher and
Makela, meet Mike's lovely bride, and was stopped from teaching Mike's boys
how to swim.
I did get my biggest chub ever. Sucker was huge!
Jonas is getting married in October. Woo Woo! Should we run up there and
give him the crossed rods guard of dishonor?
Won't be able to join you all in October, so see you in the Spring for the
Grannom hatch unless you all get up to the International Flytyers'
Symposium.
Oh, by the way, did I say YANKEES SUCK?!

No, the wedding is in October. She's evidently landed a job in State
College so they're moving out of the back room of the Feathered Hook and
buying a house there. The Feathered Hook WILL remain open.

Orioles whupped 'em 17 to 9 last night. Can still get a ticket package for
Thursday's O's-Yankers game, 4 tickets, 4 hats, and 4 programs for 40 bucks.
That final series of the Sox and Yankees in Fenway is gonna be fun. You can
still get tickets for that too (they happen to be for a seat in the back of
a bar in DesMoines, but what the hey).

i was married to a lawyer, once upon a time. i mean, she didn't
actually have a law degree, but she loved to argue, always had the right
answer, and if you got screwed, it wasn't *her* fault...so i guess she
qualified.

that's where it always gets the true artists and genuine human beings.
the majority of folks complain about hurting in their "wallets".
btw...if you haven't seen it yet, you need to rent the entire "deadwood"
series out on dvd. the music at the end of each episode is worth the
rental fee at blockbuster. watched it last year, just bought the music
cd... if there's a reason to have a teevee, deadwood is it... but it's
not for children.

Despite little rainfall, the place is still very much alive and well!

We finally got some rain on Monday (the 26th) -- .49 " in State
College. Except for .01" on the 20th, it was the first rain in
September! And we got damn little in the second half of August.

We're promised some more for tomorrow.
