Default first pike of the season

Hi everybody,
today I needed to spent the day buying new waders, new wading shoes and
a new rain jacket. My Simms jacket ( second time ) was leak, as well as
my Slade waders. Unbelievable how short these things seem to last.
But anyway : of course it was a gorgious day to fish... beautiful pike
weather.
So back home I had another hour left before it would get dark, so I gave
it a try. And there she was..the first pike of this season. In Holland
for me the pike season starts in the beginning of october, when most of
the waterplants are dying.
Although I was alone I managed to take a few nice shots.

Very nice. That last picture is perfectly composed - damned good if it was
taken by someone else, damned near miraculous as a self-portrait....

cheers

It just struck me that I haven't fished for pike this season. How did I let
that happen?

Looking at your excellent pictures I see some different coloring on the fish
from what I'm used to here in North America. The sort of tiger stripes on the
back don't happen here, the bars on the lower half of your fish continue up the
entire side of our fish. I wonder if they are really the same fish, or if
there are two species.

Thanks,

Chas

differently pattern again,
Hans

I agree with Chas. The markings on the fish you caught are quite
different from the "normal" Pike we get in the US. I googled up pike
from the Scandinavian region and got:

http://www.cwcab.com/bigpike.htm

These are some beautiful, big fish. In terms of markings, they look
just like the Pike we see in North America.

Ah. One of the Low Countries. That explains it.
