Default PowerPro braided fishing line and bass fishing

Lets go with semi-pro, ok Bobby? lol...

I dunno, I just LOVE hooking a big bass on light mono, having to loosten up
on the drag while running to the back of the boat in an effort to keep him
on (just ask Thundercat). Something about pulling in a 5 pound fish with 50
pound line that just doesn't do it for me.

Hey group,

I've been using PowerPro (15 lb test) braided fishing line for

sal****er
fishing and it works GREAT! Has anyone been using it for bass fishing

in
freshwater? If you have, what have been the results. Catch more or

less
fish?

Thanks in advance for any replies!

Guys guys guys. . . . 99% of bass fishing is what is hanging on BEHIND
the reel and NOT IN FRONT OF IT.

PS: The Zen Basser returns to the water today after some cosmetic
rebuild and painting done. I'll write of my success or failure today
and try to list as many possible brands names as I can grin

I too enjoy the braided lines after a recommendation from Steve last year.
I use both PowerPro and FireLine. I think I prefer PowerPro as I bought
both just to experiment. After my FireLine is gone, I plan to stick with
PowerPro. I have not tried Stren's braided line yet.

I have been using PowerPro also with slip bobbers for crappie fishing.
Steve had a great article on crappie fishing and did mention the
disadvantages to using braided lines in that situation. For slip bobbers,
the braided line does not slip through the bobber as easily as mono. I have
either had to add a little more weight or jerk my line a little bit to get
it to slip. It still works well. If I ever get some extra spools for my
reels, I will probably keep mono around for the slip bobber situation.

I understand the concept of a "fighting chance", but I think that when I'm
guiding, or fishing for money, the fish don't deserve a fighting chance.

I
figure that they've got all the chance they get when they decide to bite

or
not. Plus, if there's any toothy critters around, do you want to donate
that $17 Lucky Craft Pointer?

Are you comparing the comparative handling & casting qualities of 50# PP
with 12# Stren? 12# mono of any kind should be compared only to a comparable
strength of any other kind of line for a fair comparison. I'll bet that if
you compared that 12# Stren to 15# or 20# PP for an outing or two, you would
switch to the PP full time. Why? the PP is superior in every single respect,
IMO. The only real advantage of mono is that it is cheaper to make
&therefore far more profitable for the manufacturers.

Forget the fighting chance bit... but I've given PowerPro its' fair shake.

I
do admit liking it better than the other "superlines", but I still prefer
good ole Stren myself.

I still hvae a couple of rods spooled with PP, and will continue to use it
until it's worn out, which will probably be a very loonnggg time from now,
but will not buy anymore. I bought this spool for the trip to Florida, but
all of my fishing was done with 12lb mono and I never lost a fish due to a
break off. Even with the fish that I had to go through the weeds to get,

PP
would probably have resulted in a broken rod if I would have tried to

horse
them through.

As far as toothy critters are concerned, I don't have to worry about

that...
until the NWC that is. :-)

I have ran into another mystery fish again this year too! Maybe I'll pluck
that thing out with this PP!

Today's short outing was my first bass fishing trip in Iowa this year.
I spent all my other trips 'til now catching crappie.

A cold front just went through droping tems from 80's to 50's and the
wind was shifting from the south to the east about 12 - 15 mph.

I managed one bass in about 3 hours a nice 5-1 on a Chartruse and White
Secret Weapon with a single gold blade, 30 lb power pro and a Shimano
Curado.

I call it my ROFB presentation.

Chartreuse and White must be an awesome bait, cause we sell an awful lot of
them. I was also watching a show last night on tv about Tennessee
fisherpeople. More than one stated that Chartreuse and White was all they
used. Of course, they had to buy several baits to get their blade
configuration... hehe. I really thought about getting in contact with them,
but most of them had Strike King sewn somewhere on their outfit.

Nevertheless, I'm gonna have a couple of Chartreuse and White baits with me
at all times!

No, I'm comparing PP with other lines like Fireline and Spiderwire Fusion...
as well as Stren Braid, and some other piece of crap that I picked up at
BPS. I think it was called XL Tuff line or something like that. While I was
spooling it on, I developed a black line between my fingers where I was
holding it, and it would NOT wash off for about a week!

I know there is no comparision between mono and superlines, and I've now
discovered that isn't too many mono lines that will compare to Stren
Original. I can only hope that since Berkley owns Stren, that nothing
changes.

Speaking of changes... I hear that All Star rods were bought by Sports
Academy. What's up with that? But that's a different thread...

I learned that from reading Paul Crawford

http://www.bassangler.com/articles/crawford/paulc.htm

And I use his "Bird Dog lure" much of the time to find fish, then I'll
see if different bait will catch more or not..... I prefer to use a
hammered nickle willow leaf blade.....which is hard to find from you's
guys -- so I'll take one from a different spinner bait and hook it into
your bait.

My go to colors in spinner baits a Chartruse and White, Wounded Shad
and black.

And there is something about your "trailer blades" that really attract
hits.

Maybe you can strike a marketing deal with Paul.....

Awesome article Fritz... and I'm gonna make sure that both Joe and Bob get a
link to that site.

The Trailer Blade is something that we've been talking about a little more.
That little blade looks really good behind most all of our blade
attachments! Especially the small gold Indianas.
