I have located the above motor, 97% new, 6 mos. factory warranty
remaining. I can get the motor, mounted, for $2800 plus my '97 Mercury Force 50/2 cyl. ( know that '05 is the last year Mercury will manufacture the Classic mid-range 2-strokes.) Please give me opinions & advice: is this a good motor? Any common mechanical problems with it? Good $$ deal? Thanks! Guy A Ripley, TN |

You'd be getting a new motor warranty, you don't have to do any work to mount it and you'll be getting a motor that is more current technology. Force motors were a decent enough motor, but finding someone to work on them is getting to be a problem. I know that Force outboards are basically a Merc powerhead, Merc electricals on a Chrysler lower unit, people's eyes glaze over when they hear the name "Force." Newer, warranty and repairable anywhere in the U.S.? As long as you're happy with the deal, it sounds ok. The only question that I have is why is the motor available in the first place? If it's a matter of the previous owner had his boat underpowered, or something along those lines, I'd have to say "Go for it." -- Steve @ OutdoorFrontiers http://www.outdoorfrontiers.com G & S Guide Service and Custom Rods http://www.herefishyfishy.com |

I swapped the 1990 Chrysler Force 50 on my little boat for an 04 Mercury 3 cylinder 50 the end of last winter. Wow what a motor. Runs great, starts easy, and it really puts out 50HP unlike the Force that only puts out about 40. It pushes my 16 foot flat bottom Waco Jon to 35.02 MPH with the prop I am currently running and I am still turning about 100 RPM over the reccomended 5500 redline. The best I ever got out of the Force was about 28 with a light load. This thing pushes me to right at 35 with the livewells full and my kid int he passenger seat. Thats pretty good when ytou figure its pushing a flat bottom boat with all that extra drag. -- -- Bob La Londe http://www.YumaBassMan.com |

I got mine becasue the guy who had it was upgrading to a Merc 90 on his boat. Since my little boat is rated for 50HP max it was perfect for me. -- -- Bob La Londe http://www.YumaBassMan.com |
